(WXYZ) - Drivers could be paying record gas prices this spring.
Experts say prices could rise 60 cents by May.
It's typical for prices to rise as the weather warms up, but prices could rise higher than usual this year because of increasing tension in the Middle East and a decline in U.S. refining capacity.
According to DetroitGasPrices.com , gas prices in Metro Detroit rose nine cents over the past week. On average, drivers are paying $3.48 per gallon, which is 32 cents higher than one year ago.
