52nd Annual Wyandotte Street Art Fair starts Wednesday

(WXYZ) - One of the largest art fairs in Michigan takes to the streets of historic downtown Wyandotte with food, music, entertainment, more than 300 fine art exhibitors, and a very special "ART" treasure hunt.

The 52nd annual Wyandotte Street Art Fair starts on Wednesday, July 10, and runs through Saturday, July 13. Admission is free. The entertainment area will open daily from noon until 11:00 p.m.

This family-friendly event attracts more than 200,000 visitors and more than 300 artists from across the state and across the country. Some of the event's features include unusual and exciting street entertainers, a children's activity area and a hands-on creative workshop hosted by the Detroit Institute of Arts. Musical entertainment for the week includes downriver celebs Rushmore's, as well as music by Larry Lee and Back in the Day, Fifty Amp Fuse, and Ryan Dillaha and The Miracle Men.

Visitors should also make time to browse the Clock Tower Craft Show, located on First Street from Maple to Oak and Elm Street, which offers a variety of handmade crafts and gifts.

Find ART in Wyandotte

One of the earliest creative images representing the fair is the ART logo, found on an early art fair poster in the archival collection at the Wyandotte Museum. Each year, the logo will be given an updated look. This year's artists, Audrey Pongracz and Tim Pewe, created an ART logo that will be hidden among the fair's art. Find the ART logo and bring it to the Information Booth and win an official " Find Art in Wyandotte" keepsake .

The Children's Emporium

A long-standing and popular feature of the art fair, The Children's Emporium provides a market place for children to shop for art. Fair artists donate art that will be sold to raise money in support of the Wyandotte Street Art Fair Committee's annual art scholarship. Prices range from $1 to $5. The Children's Emporium is an exciting and affordable way to nurture a young person's appreciation of art.

Rock poster illustrator Carl Lundgren featured at Retro Row

Put on a tie-dyed shirt and bell-bottoms and head down to Retro Row for a blast from the past. Located near the corner of Biddle and Sycamore, Retro Row will feature fantasy artist and rock poster illustrator Carl Lundgren. Lundgren is best known for creating poster illustrations for such seminal rock bands as The Who , Jefferson Airplane and Pink Floyd .
