DPS extends spring open enrollment

Detroit Public Schools has launched its spring Open Enrollment period, extending now through May 20.
 
To showcase individualized programs and school offerings to parents and students, the district will host its biggest Open Doors Day!
 
On Saturday, May 3, DPS will host four open enrollment fairs geared toward specific audiences, including a Specialized Services Fair to showcase district programs for students with special needs, a Cinco de Mayo Outdoor Enrollment Fair for students in Southwest Detroit, the annual K-8 All-Schools Open House, and the district’s second High School & Career Academy Fair showcasing all DPS high schools in one location for incoming ninth-graders to peruse.

Cinco de Mayo Outdoor Enrollment Fair at Western International High School, 1500 Scotten
All schools in Southwest Detroit will be showcased in one location at the outdoor Cinco de Mayo Enrollment Fair in the Western International High School parking lot. This event will coincide with the weekend-long Cinco de Mayo celebration in Southwest Detroit. Every Southwest school, and other schools that choose to participate, will have a booth on-site to showcase their great offerings with marketing paraphernalia and creatively decorated tables. Guests will enjoy live entertainment, giveaways, on-site registration and more. A free Southwest-inspired lunch will be provided by the Office of School Nutrition.
 
K-8 Schools Open House & Kindergarten Round-Up
All elementary-middle schools will be open across the district during Open Doors Day, and all elementary schools will also host a Kindergarten Round-Up. All schools have developed their own creative itineraries to engage families with tours at each site. Free lunch will be provided by the Office of School Nutrition.
 
High School & Career Academy Fair at Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School, 3200 E. Lafayette
All high schools and CTCs will be represented at a city-wide High School Fair. Attendees can learn about all high schools, Career Tech Academies and scholarship opportunities in one location. Every school will have a booth and representatives on-site. Schools will showcase their great offerings with marketing paraphernalia and creatively decorated tables. High School Fair highlights include: Dr. Darrius from Radio One’s Hot 107.5 will be live on-site; A PlayStation 4 Giveaway, courtesy of ABC Warehouse; a $200 Target Gift Card Drawing; and Walmart Gift Card Drawings throughout the event. Free lunch will be provided by the Office of School Nutrition.
 
Specialized Services Fair at Jerry L. White Center, 14804 W. McNichols
All Specialized Services Departments and Special Education Centers will be showcased in one location for the first-ever Specialized Services Fair at Jerry L. White Center! Guests will enjoy student performances, gain information about exclusive special education programs and more. Free lunch will be provided by the Office of School Nutrition.
