Jazz Legends to Perform at 2013 Detroit Jazz Festival Labor Day Weekend

DETROIT, MICH. (WXYZ) - The 34th annual Detroit Jazz Festival will take place once again over Labor Day weekend in Hart Plaza and Campus Martius, downtown Detroit.

The Detroit Jazz Festival is the largest free jazz festival in the world, with attendees from all over the globe, and more than 25 percent of attendees coming from outside of Michigan. In addition to providing incredible opportunities to see jazz legends, the Festival makes a significant economic impact on the city of Detroit through Festival weekend activities and year-round initiatives. Attendees can see the world-renowned artists on four stages - JP Morgan Chase Main Stage, Carhartt Amphitheatre Stage, Mack Avenue Records Waterfront Stage and Absopure Pyramid Stage - Aug. 30 through Sept. 2, 2013.

The 2013 headlining acts will include:

·           David Murray Big Band with Macy Gray

·           Ahmad Jamal

·           Joshua Redman Quartet

·           John Scofield Überjam

·           Shelia Jordan with strings featuring the Alan Broadbent Trio

·           McCoy Tyner Trio with special guest Savion Glover

·           Yellowjackets

·           The Saxophone Summit featuring Ravi Coltrane, David Liebman and Joe Lovano

·           Gregory Porter

·           Robert Glasper Experiment

·           Charles Lloyd Quartet featuring Bill Frisell

·           Eddie Daniels and Roger Kellaway

·           With a special tribute to David Brubeck, featuring the Brubeck Brothers Quartet and rarely heard orchestral compositions by Dave Brubeck
