Local cities open their cooling centers to help residents beat the heat

(WXYZ) - With this latest blast of summer moving through on Tuesday and Wednesday, some local cities have opened up their cooling centers to help residents beat the heat.

In Detroit the following facilities are open to help residents cool down:

  • Crowell Community Center

  • Farwell Recreation Center

  • Hours: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Heilmann Recreation Center

  • Hours: 1 p.m. – 9 p.m.

In Westland the following facilities are opening their doors:

  • Westland Friendship Center
  • 1119 N. Newburgh
  • Tuesday, September 10 - 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 11 - 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Dorsey Center
