Meijer offers healthy 4th of July recipes

Roll out the red, white, and blue for a patriotic 4th of July celebration.  Invite friends and family and delight them with a tasty cookout.

Cherry Tomato Bombs with Avocado
Grilled Burgers and Chicken Sausage with
DIY Condiments, Earthbound Farm Butter Lettuce Leaves and Arugula, Sliced Onion

Liven up burgers with “DIY Condiments”.  Personalized condiments for burgers, hot dogs and grilled sausages.
a.    Southwest Mayo:  Mix together 1/2 cup light mayonnaise, 1 to 2 Tbsp. lime juice, 1 tsp. each McCormick chili powder and ground cumin
b.    Lemony Herb Mayo: 1/2 cup light mayonnaise, 1 tsp. McCormick basil, 1/2 tsp. each McCormick Oregano, garlic powder and 1/2 to 1 tsp. lemon juice
c.    Herbed Mustard:  1/2 cup Meijer Dijon mustard plus 1 tsp. McCormick dill weed
d.    Worcestershire Pub Mustard:  1/2 cup Meijer Dijon mustard plus 1 tsp. McCormick grill mates Worcestershire pub burger seasoning
e.    Asian Spiced Ketchup: 1 cup Meijer ketchup, 1-2 tsp. reduced sodium soy sauce, 1/2 tsp. each McCormick garlic powder and ground ginger
f.     Cajun spiced ketchup:  1 cup Meijer Ketchup and 1 Tbsp. McCormick Perfect Pinch Cajun Seasoning.
Toppings: Sliced cucumbers, broccoli slaw, Earthbound Farms Baby Arugula, sliced grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, grilled bell peppers, grilled poblano peppers, baby spinach leaves or sliced avocado

Cherry Tomato Bombs
Serves 8


32 Cherry tomatoes
2 tsp. Sriracha chile sauce
1/4 cup Meijer light cream cheese
1 – 2 Fresh ripe California Avocado, peeled
            Lime juice to prevent browning
32 Fresh rosemary leaves or bell pepper cut in very thin strips (to create “wicks”


1.    Cut a small slice off the top of each cherry tomato and use a small spoon to hollow out the center of each.  If the tomatoes won’t stand up, cut of a very small slice from the bottom so that it is flat.
2.    Squirt a drop or two of Sriracha sauce into each tomato and top with cream cheese to fill half way.
3.    Dice avocado and sprinkle with lime juice.  Place avocado pieces on top of cream cheese, press down slightly.
4.    Top with another drop or two or Sriracha sauce and insert rosemary leaf or bell pepper slice in the center to it looks like a “fuse”.
