Michigan Humane Society holding photo contest to find state's most adorable pet for 2014 calendar

(WXYZ) - The Michigan Humane Society is holding a special photo contest to determine Michigan's Most Adorable Pet.

The idea behind the 2013 Pet Photo Contest is to have Michiganders determine the winner.

"It's just too difficult to decide on a winner," said Michael Robbins, MHS Vice President of Marketing and Communications in a news release. "We get so many cute submissions that it's impossible for us to decide. That's why we're leaving this choice to Michigan's pet owners themselves. Best of all, it will help MHS change animal lives."

The contest is open to all pet owners. However, a $25 donation is required.

The first 250 entrants will be included automatically in the 2014 pet calendar.

Voting is open until 11:59 pm on May 31, 2013. The winner will be the pet that receives the most donations, with 1 dollar equaling one vote.

All pets whose campaigns receive at least $312 will be featured on the Humane Society website as a member of the 2013 Honor Roll.

The winner will receive a special "pet of the month" honor in the 2014 Pet Calendar. They will also receive a personalized brick paver on the grounds of the MHS Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland, a 15 percent discount on veterinary care for one year at any MHS veterinary center and a MHS prize pack.

The second and third place winners will also receive prizes.
