(WXYZ) - Hunger knows no bounds. It affects people in rural, suburban and urban communities. That's why WXYZ-TV is taking action by teaming up with Art Van Furniture and Gleaners Community Food Bank for Together We Can.
From November 2nd through November 25th, donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at Art Van locations throughout Metro Detroit, including Ann Arbor, Port Huron and Howell. The donations will be turned over to Gleaners Community Food Bank, which has been feeding the hungry in Michigan for more than 30 years.
"Our goal is to stock the shelves of local pantries so that no one will have to go without a meal," said Ed Fernandez, Divisional GM, E.W. Scripps Company and Vice-President/General Manager at WXYZ. "With the help of the community, and our partners at Art Van Furniture and Gleaners, we can make a difference in the fight against hunger."
According to research, over one million people in Michigan use food banks each year. Last year, Gleaners distributed 40 million pounds of emergency food to more than 500 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe Counties.
