David Solano joined WXYZ in July 2012 as weekend sports anchor. He also contributes to the 7 Sports Cave and Lions GameDay Live.
"I couldn't be more excited about receiving this opportunity to work at WXYZ; one of the best TV stations in the country," said Solano. "I am extremely passionate about sports journalism and so honored to share stories about our athletes."
Before landing on the 7 Action Sports team, David worked at KIAH-TV in Houston as a sports reporter/anchor/producer for over two years, where he covered the Texans, Astros, Dynamo and the Rockets.
From 2006-2009, David worked at WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, Mich., as weekend sports anchor/reporter. His two fondest Michigan memories: the Tigers trip to the World Series in 2006, and the Red Wings hoisting the Stanley Cup in 2008.
David was born in Philadelphia but raised in Portland, Ore., where his family still lives. He attended Portland State University in Oregon, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communication studies.
His first on-air job was at WMAZ-TV in Macon, Ga., where he worked as a sports anchor/reporter for nearly four years.
David received a best broadcast/print journalism award by the National Association of Black Journalists, and received an honorable mention by the Humane Society of The United States.
