Shelley Childers

Shelley Childers joins WXYZ as a reporter for 7 Action News This Morning.

She comes to Detroit from South Texas where she spent the past few years covering the explosive situation on the U.S. - Mexico border. As a reporter/anchor/bureau chief for ABC-affiliate KRGV, she’s covered everything from civilian militias and human smuggling, to kidnappings and drug trafficking.

Before landing on the border, Shelley did a tour of duty in Midland-Odessa, Texas where she was the go-to reporter for the rapid growth during the 2009 oil boom.

While Shelley is a Texas native, this is something of a homecoming for her. She graduated with a journalism degree from Michigan State University and is married to a fellow Spartan who hails from Oakland County.

Shelley brings with her accolades from the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Association, three rescue animals and a plethora of winter hats and scarves.

You can watch her each morning from 4 a.m. - 7 a.m. on 7 Action News and from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. on TV 20 Detroit.
