WXYZ Detroit - Get ready Detroit for another Ford Freedom Award! The theme for the 2014 program will be “The Power of Perseverance.” This year’s ceremony will be epitomized by 2014 Ford Freedom Award honoree, Nelson Mandela, the revered anti-apartheid activist who spent more than 25 years in prison before becoming the first black South African president.
In celebration of the 2014 Ford Freedom Award theme, Michigan students in Grades 4 – 8 are invited to submit essays on the following topic:
"Describe a time in your life when you could have given up, but chose instead to persevere despite difficulties, and in doing so achieved success. Describe the situation, the obstacles to success and the results achieved."
Go to www.dnie.com for complete details and an entry form. All essays must be received by Wednesday, April 9.
Brought to you by Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services in cooperation with the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
