DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - Students thinking about what they want to be when they grow up are chewing on advice from two of WXYZ's morning anchors.
Alicia Smith and Keenan Smith were invited to attend Golightly Education Center’s Career Fair.
The event included firefighters, police officers, doctors, professors, accountants and more.
7 Action News Morning Anchor/Reporter Alicia Smith and 7 First Alert Meteorologist Keenan Smith talked to the kids about what their jobs entail and what school subjects helped them prepare.
“The students asked excellent questions,” said Alicia Smith. “One of the more common questions was, ‘How did you know you wanted to do this when you were young?’ I told them it took me a while to figure it out. I worked in radio during high school at first, and then I majored in Broadcast News in college. But doing newsroom internships on top of that really helped me understand what I was getting myself into.”
“One student asked me if I knew what paleoclimatology was,” said Keenan Smith. “I said, ‘Yes.’ And he answered, ‘Finally, somebody knows!’ These were some smart kids.”
