Parks and rec campgrounds are officially open for business

(WXYZ) - The camping season at Addison Oaks and Groveland Oaks campgrounds kicks off today. Spend a weekend with family and friends in a tent or RV at an individual/group modern campsite or comfy cabin and enjoy sandy beaches, boat/bike rentals, fishing, playgrounds, trails, music, crafts, kids' activities and group games.

Each of the campgrounds offers unique features. "Groveland Oaks offers many family activities and Addison Oaks fosters hiking, biking and relaxing around the camp fire," Parks Supervisor Boyd Brokenshaw said.

New for the 2014 camping season are two yurts at each campground. Yurts are circular, spacious canvas-walled tents furnished with two bunk beds, one double bed, small refrigerator, table and chairs. Groveland Oaks features a newly-renovated bathhouse with family restrooms.

Save $30 by reserving a six-person cabin through May 18 at the price of a four-person cabin.

Guests will enjoy award-winning themed weekends such as Derby Days and Aqua Palooza and special events Air Fair (Aug. 10 at Groveland) and Freedom Fireworks (July 4 at Addison and July 5 at Groveland).

Addison Oaks County Park is located at 1480 West Romeo Road in Leonard. Groveland Oaks County Park is located at 14555 Dixie Highway (at Grange Hall Road) in Holly.
