Teen Hype is a movement to empower Detroit youth to thrive and get them ready for the world! They are also one of three Channel 7 Detroit 2020 winners for 2015.

Teen “Hype” stands for Helping Youth by Providing Education.  In a vibrant building on Detroit’s west side, young people are infused with leadership development and educational enrichment in a safe and nurturing environment.  Through high-quality programs and fun theater, the aim is to heal and train teens for long-term success.  This creative organization is like family for the participants who develop meaningful relationships with the staff that lasts far beyond their school years.  Each year, thousands of young people, as young as 13 years of age, are mentored in this learning environment that encourages solid peer and community partnerships.

Because of their dedication to being one of the most successful non-profit programs in Michigan, WXYZ/WMYD Vice President & General Manager Mike Murri presented Teen Hype with $7,000 from the Scripps Howard Foundation and congratulated Chief Executive Officer Ambra Redrick and her staff on being one of this year’s Detroit 2020 outstanding recipients.

Teen Hype embodies our Detroit 2020 motto: Unify, Inspire, Act!
