DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Students are becoming bookworms this month to mark “March Is Reading Month.“
The 4th graders at River Oaks Elementary School in Dearborn Heights knew they were going to have a guest reader on March 6, but they didn’t know who it was going to be.
It was WXYZ 7 Action News This Morning Anchor Alicia Smith.
She was invited to read to Mrs. Wolski and Ms. Alsaidi’s 4th grade students Thursday morning.
She read Mr. Peabody’s Apples.
“The selected a Michigan author – Madonna!” said Smith. “I told them, ‘Hey, the writer is a pop culture icon from my generation!”
The book shares a lesson about jumping to conclusions, gossiping, and how our words can have a great impact on other people.
River Oaks Elementary is in the Dearborn Public Schools District. It’s one of many districts observing “March is Reading Month” by inviting celebrity readers to class.
