WXYZ Morning Anchors Vic Faust & Alicia Smith read to students for March Is Reading Month

Surprise guests for some first and second graders

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich.(WXYZ) - Schwarzkoff Elementary School students are celebrating March Is Reading Month, and administrators and teachers decided to invite some guest readers from WXYZ 7 Action News to surprise them.

Enter WXYZ Morning Anchors Alicia Smith and Vic Faust!

“The kids and teachers had a great time,” said Assistant Principal Darrin Millar – who organized the event.  “Everyone said that [Vic and Alicia] were awesome.”

The 7 Action News team split up to read to five classes.

Vic read to second graders.  His book was Thank you, Mr. Falker by Michigan author Patricia Polacco.

“I loved it, and I could see that the kids listened to every word,” said Faust.

“I couldn’t say they were on the edge of their seats because they were on the floor,” he added with a chuckle.

Alicia read to three first grade classes.  Her book was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett .

“I can’t believe I had never read that book.  It’s hilarious,” said Smith.  “The kids let me know which food they’d love to see falling from the sky.  I think the student who said broccoli should get a high five,” Smith laughed.

After the reading sessions, Vic and Alicia joined the kids in the hall for a March Is Reading Month cheer.

Mr. Millar recorded it, and 7 Action News replayed it on the morning newscast the next day.
