Last Update: 6/17/2008 1:01 pm
The anchor of Channel 7 Action News at Noon and Action News at 5PM, Robbie Timmons has carved out a distinguished niche for herself in the world of broadcast journalism.

Timmons began her career in 1972 for WILX-TV in Lansing, Michigan where she became the first woman in the United States to anchor the 6 and 11 p.m. newscast for a network affiliate.

Robbie joined Channel 7 in 1982 as a general assignment reporter and began anchoring the 5 p.m. news in 1985. If you ask her about her job, she’ll say she loves never knowing what’s next, and what she calls the "fresh, day to day" nature of the news business. Robbie is glad to be the one telling people what’s going on in their neighborhoods and the world.

In her time with WXYZ, Timmons has been honored with multiple awards, including several Emmys - mostly recently in 2008 for Action News at Noon. She also received the prestigious NATAS Silver Circle Award. Robbie was named Outstanding Woman in Broadcast News by the American Women in Radio and Television, in 2002 was voted as one of the most powerful women in Michigan and is listed in Who's Who in America.

Robbie is the author of a children's chapter book about a thoroughbred race horse and his best friend, a goat. "Twoey and the Goat," published by Mitten Press in Ann Arbor. Click here for more information on the book and a list of signing dates.

Timmons is a graduate of Ohio State University in Columbus. She now lives in Oakland County with her husband, sportscaster Jim Brandstatter, and shares his enthusiasm for Detroit Lions football and U. of M. football games. Both are also big fans of travel, listing Alaska, Hawaii, and Ireland as just a few of their favorite vacation spots.

The head of their household is a Shetland Sheepdog, a Sheltie named Cassie.

"It’s been a pleasure watching Detroit's renaissance grow," Robbie says. "Detroit continues to grow and gain positive national attention. I'm proud to be a part of it."
