Tom Wait
7 Action News Reporter

Last Update: 12/15/2008 12:39 pm
Tom joined the WXYZ-TV news team as a reporter in March of 2008.

Wait joins Channel 7 from KCTV5, the CBS affiliate in Kansas City, where he was a general assignment reporter since 2005. Prior to that, Tom worked for ‘News 12 The Bronx’ in New York where he served as both a reporter and anchor for the station. While at News 12, Wait anchored the station’s 2004 presidential election coverage.

Wait has covered a myriad of national stories including: the Greensburg, KS tornado of May, 2007 in which a devastating storm nearly destroyed an entire town. Tom also received national recognition for his coverage of a local mall shooting in Kansas City, MO, where three people were killed and dozens of others injured.

Originally from Southern California, Wait received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California in Berkley and continued his education in New York, earning his master’s degree in journalism from New York University.

As a graduate student, Tom spent a summer in southern Russia producing a short documentary highlighting the lives of Chechen refugees.

Exercising, hiking and taking care of his cats, Sammy and Gracie are just a few things that Tom enjoys when he is not at work; and he is a die-hard Cal Fan (even though is now rooting for the home teams here in Detroit.)
