Delivered by Chuck Stokes, Editorial Director

Get ready to start your engines! Saturday is the official day of the Woodward Dream Cruise. But you don’t have to wait until then to get a taste of what’s coming. Throughout this week, Woodward Avenue will be the place to see classic cars celebrating Detroit’s proud automotive heritage.

The timing couldn’t be better! This year, in particular, the world needs a reminder of the hard work, ingenuity, and engineering that has made us the auto capital of the world. Detroit’s Dream Cruise does that better than any other event.

What began 15 years ago as an event to raise funds for a Ferndale soccer field has become a summer highlight. And despite the recession, organizers expect over 1 million spectators and as many as 40 thousand classic cars that will generate about $50 million toward our local economy.
Broadcast: August 13 - 14, 2009

This year, the cruise will return to its roots, shining the spotlight on classic cars. It will be a free family event that will lift everyone’s spirits. Come join the fun and watch Channel 7’s primetime Saturday special beginning at 7 p.m.. Folks, it’s crusin’ time on Woodward Avenue.
