Delivered by Bob Sliva, Vice President & General Manager
The U.S. Congress is on summer recess. That should mean federal legislators are back home with the people they represent. It's a good time to share with them what's on your mind.
Do you like the direction health care reform is headed? Would you like to see even more taxpayer money be allocated for the cash for clunkers program? Is the stimulus recovery plan creating jobs in your community? Do you think the so-called "cap and trade" climate change bill will help or hurt the economy? Take your pick! Washington is dealing with a full plate of critically important issues. Passing good bi-partisan legislation requires your input. Make an appointment with your representative or attend one of their public forums. Come prepared to ask the tough questions and listen respectfully to their answers.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "A government can be no better than the public opinion that sustains it."
Accountability starts with communicating expections. Help your representative with the process. Get in touch, speak up, and be heard!
