Best of Detroit

Last Update: 8/28/2008 4:02 pm
Delivered by Bob Sliva, Vice President & General Manager

The 14TH Annual Woodward Dream Cruise was a great way to get Metro Detroit in the mood for an action packed Labor Day Weekend. By all measurements, the Cruise was a huge success; the event generated millions of dollars for our local economy and projected to the world a positive image of Detroit. One point two million people, inspired by 40-thousand classic cars, celebrated the people and the machines that that inspired the moniker - The Motor City.

Congratulations to Dale Dawkins, the members of the Woddward Dream Druise Board and the nine participating host communities, for yet another tremendous success!

Now, here comes the hard part! What do we do for an encore? No need to worry, there is something for everyone this weekend in Metro Detroit. The Detroit Grand Prix returns to Belle Isle. Friday is Free Prix Day with racing on the island both Saturday amd Sunday. If you can't make the big race on Sunday, catch all the action right here on Channel 7.

The Detroit International Jazzfest will be in the spotlight down at Hart Plaza. The Michigan State Fair is in full swing at the Fairgrounds and the Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival kicks off Friday in Pontiac.

So pick your pleasure and take in as much as you can as we celebrate the last weekend of the summer. As the Metro Detroit Convention Bureau is fond of saying, "There's no place better to be than in the 'D'...and that's especially true Labor Day Weekend!
