(WXYZ) A number of media outlets are reporting that President Elect Barack Obama has picked his Treasury Secretary.
The choice is reportedly Timothy Geithner, the current president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. As head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Geithner was involved in the Bear Stearns and AIG Bailout and the decision to let Lehman Brothers fail.
Geithner worked for Kissinger and Associates in Washington, DC, for three years before joining the International Affairs division of the US Treasury Department in 1988.
In 1999 he was promoted to Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, serving under Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers.
Geithner's appointment is expected to be made official Monday, when President Elect Obama will reportedly announce his entire economic team.
