New Councilman Brown Speaks to Channel 7

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Former Detroit cop Gary Brown made a strong showing in Tuesday's city council election, finishing second in a field of 18 candidates. Charles Pugh was the leading vote-getter.

Brown will now become the council's president pro tem.

Brown is the former Detroit deputy police chief who was fired by Kwame Kilpatrick in May 2003 for his involvement in an internal affairs investigation of the mayor, his family and police bodyguards.

He filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the mayor and city and won a $6.5-million judgment. He later settled for $3 million.
