DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit auto show may be a bit more subdued than in years past, but that hasn't affected the new products on display here at Cobo. In fact this may be one of the most impressive shows, in terms of new technology, in years.

And with new technology new players are trying to break into the auto industry. The Chinese have two carmakers making debuts at Cobo - BYD and Brilliance. Neither comany has vehicles on sale in the U.S., but both are working to build dealer networks, hoping to get their products on the roads in the next 5 years.

The Chinese are trying to break in during a tough time - and they know it. To offset the economic difficulties BYD and Brilliance are going to offer a range of hybrids and electrics to meet new demand for fuel efficient cars.
