(WXYZ) - The buyout deadline is here for thousands of hourly Chrysler workers. Chrysler offered three different packages, but Action News talked with many workers who says they're just too young to take a buyout.
Under the first option young workers employed by Chrysler for a year or more would receive $75,000 and a $25,000 vehicle voucher. Taxes would need to be paid on the $75,000.
The second buyout option is geared toward those workers between the ages of 55-62 who have worked for the company for 10 years or more. These workers can take early retirement and get their full pension, but would not receive a vehicle voucher.
The last buyout option is for those workers between the ages of 55-59 whose age and service equal more than 85. Under the terms of this buyout, they would receive a pre-tax payment of $50,000, a $25,000 vehicle voucher and earned pension.
Action News spoke with many workers who say they are too young to retire, but too old to start over in a new career.
Chrysler offered the buyout to 23,000 hourly workers.
Sterling Heights Assembly Plant was especially targeted with the offers because it's expected to close in 2010.
"We're all concerned about what's going to happen here, we're in a wait and see mode, we just do the best we can - as much as we can - for as long as we can," one worker told Action News.
