WAYNE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Ford's announcement that it is finally making a profit comes on the same day that UAW members rejected a new round of concessions.
The United Auto Workers union says its members soundly defeated the new concessions contract, with 70 percent of the rank and file and 75 percent of the skilled trades voting no. And, with Ford reporting $1 billion in profits, many workers say they have given back enough.
"I have four kids," said Dave Love, a Ford worker. "I can't afford to give back anymore."
In exchange for the new concessions, the agreement calls for Ford to bring new products into American plants. Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally won't say if that production will now be moved out of the country.
"We will be reviewing everything and base decisions on who is most competitive," said Mulally. "That is what will keep this company profitable."
