DETROIT (WXYZ) - Since 1891, the Historic Motor City Missionary Baptist Church has stood proudly on 28th street in Detroit.
With a congregation of roughly 350 people, the church is powerful in spirit and rich with love.
The church also has a young, energetic pastor the Reverend Johnny Lowe has worked tirelessly to improve so much at the church. Even so, many areas of the facility are in deserate need of help.
Especially the kitchen. The rusty old gas stove is worthless. The ancient Garland oven doesn't work either.
Their tiny home refrigerator is very old and is too small to hold much of anything.
The small chrome sink is a joke.
For years, church leaders have tried to launch a program to provide free meals to the poorest people in their neighborhood but have been unable to.
So, to remedy that, tonight the Call For Action Team is launching a campaign to help the Historic Motor City Church get their kitchen up and running.
If you are a local business owner or an individual and could donate a commercial grade stove, refrigerator, freezer or sink, please contact the Reverend Johnny Lowe at 313-896-2166.
