The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund

Last Update: 10/26 7:21 pm
(WXYZ) - With his hands wrapped around his guitar, 26-year-old Caz Werda of Novi gives all he can as he jams with his best friend Steve Alberty.

Caz knows about giving. At the age of 24, while fighting in Iraq, Caz lost his eyesight when a roadside bomb exploded just a few feet from his humvee. The shrapnel ripped most of his face apart and nearly killed him.

He was awarded the purple heart and spent the next 9 months literally having his face rebuilt. This army specialist assigned to the First Infantry Bravo Company, would have to rebuild his entire life at the same time.

Now, for all he has given for us, a group called “The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund," is helping Caz by paying for needed changes to his home.

They are building him a rehabilitation room and a new bathroom to help him with his recovery. The total cost of the project is $12,500.

Now two years after Iraq, Caz is about to become a new father, as he walks step by step towards a brighter future.
