(WXYZ) - With money tight these days keeping your appliances maintained can add up to savings and so can fixing them yourself when they break down. A local company can help you do both.
“I think the biggest misconception is people think they can’t do it themselves,” says Chris Hall, president of
www.repairclinic.com. “We help people by giving them free repair help, how to repair the appliance, how to install the part. We make it easier for people to repair that appliance themselves.”
How it worksIt starts at their website. The parts detective can help you determine what part you may need, and if you don’t know, you can email or chat with a *repair guru* who will help you determine what’s wrong with your appliance, and how to go about fixing it. Chris Zeisler is one of those gurus.
“Well, getting into the appliance and seeing what’s going on, it could just be something that is out of place, out of position, a hose came off or something like that,” Zeisler says.
The Repair Clinic helps some 70-thousand people a month repair their own appliances, and best of all.
“The majority of people who contact us, we help them with their repair without them purchasing any part at all,” Hall says.
Maintaining Your AppliancesThe site also contains lots of good information about maintaining your appliances, such as using a special brush to clean the condensing coils under your refrigerator.
To keep your dryer in good working order, Hall suggests cleaning the lint screen with each use and occasionally removing the duct from the back of the dryer to make sure the vent is clean all the way out the house.
Washing machines can get damaged if they shake a lot on the spin cycle, so be sure the legs on the machine are level. (they’re often adjustable.)
Also, don’t let the bag in your vacuum cleaner get jam packed. It puts stress on the motor.
A little do it yourself know how, so you don’t waste your money!.
