STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Cars lined up Wednesday in Sterling Heights carrying people hoping to get the H1N1 vaccine, and reportedly the day went very well for all concerned.
Health officials say they saw fewer people than they expected, just under 1,300 persons.
People lined up in their cars along Metro Parkway well before sunrise. Pam Dotson was at the head of the line, arriving at 4:30 a.m.
"I'm a health care worker and I don't want to take it from the school to the elderly where I work," Dotson said.
Once the gates at Freedom Hill opened, hundreds waited for their turn to receive the nasal spray vaccine.
This initial program is limited to healthy people ages 2 to 49. Others eligible include people who care for children under six months of age and those between the ages of 2 and 25 with chronic health problems, as well as primary medical personnel.
Before the noon hour the long-lines were gone and everyone got in -- and out -- quickly.
Another clinic will be held at the same location Thursday from noon to 7 pm. Three thousand doses of the vaccine has been set aside, but they'll be able to handle even more people now.
