Pediatric Swine Flu Vaccine Recalled

Last Update: 12/15/2009 10:47 pm
(WXYZ) - Sanofi-Aventis SA is recalling almost 800,000 doses of the pediatric H1N1 vaccine because they are weaker than federal guidelines mandate.

The recalled vaccines come in pre-filled syringes and are designed for children six months to three years old. Experts say parents don't have to worry if their children have already been vaccinated because, while the vaccines are weaker than they should be, they are still strong enough to provide adequate protection against the H1N1 virus.

Michigan officials says that about 17,200 doses of the recalled vaccine were sent to Michigan. The state says that, in our area, the affected vaccines were sent to health departments, clinics or private doctors' offices in Detroit, as well as to facilities in Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. However, officials in Oakland county tell Action News that they did not receive any of the recalled vaccine.
