There’s a major investigation going on inside the Detroit Police Department and some drug cops could be in hot water.

Action News has learned that the Detroit police actually invited the FBI to come in and take a hard look at the Detroit Police Narcotics Unit. They’re investigating several cops for allegedly stealing money, possibly as much as a half million dollars.

The Action News Investigators have learned that the FBI and Detroit Police Internal Affairs are looking in to allegations of corruption in the DPD narcotics unit.

Sources tell us – some members of one of the narcotics unit’s “conspiracy crews” are accused of stealing money – maybe as much as a half million dollars.

A conspiracy crew is a team of officers in narcotics enforcement that works on long-term investigations and focuses on large-scale drug dealers and suppliers.

Detroit police confirm that the FBI and their own internal affairs jumped on this investigation in December.

The department has also taken the bold step of removing the accused officers from narcotics and re-assigning them to other areas in the department until the investigation is complete.

It’s not clear how many Detroit cops are allegedly involved in this corruption investigation, but we have heard a minimum of four names including one sergeant and there may be more.
