After earlier suggesting that GM move its headquarters from Detroit's Renaissance Center to his city, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts is reacting to a tax deal meant to keep the automaker in Detroit.
WATCH INTERVIEW IN VIDEO PLAYER AT RIGHT.The deal put together by Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing would create a Renaissance Zone around the Ren Cen. This would allow corporations to operate there tax-free.
In an interview with Action News, Fouts proclaimed, "The bottom line is that General Motors needs to make this decision based on dollars and cents."
Warren's mayor praised Ficano and Bing for the deal they had put together for GM, but was quick to call his city's offer the better deal. In the interview he cited Detroit's wage tax and noted potential savings generated by a move of GM's employees into their existing Tech Center complex.
"If Wayne County and the mayor of Detroit can offer them a better deal, than by gosh, they should take the deal," said Fouts.
