(WXYZ) - Some Detroit school children spent their Tuesday morning helping clean-up their neighborhood, and giving a helping hand to those less fortunate.
BRANDON TRUTTLING REPORTS IN THE VIDEO PLAYER ON THE RIGHTThe students cleaned up tires as part of a Cass Community Social Service's event. It's designed to teach them to be stewards of their environment. It is also designed to teach them about helping those less fortunate because of what the organization does with the tire.
The Cass Community Social Services group uses the tires to help people get a fresh start by working with their hands. Employees break down the tires and convert them into mud mat, unique welcome mats that are then sold to the community. The idea is to give those down on their luck a second chance.
