Singing To Save the Music of St. Joseph's Church

Last Update: 11/02 3:54 pm
DETROIT (WXYZ)-  A 60's band is reuniting to save the music program at St. Joseph, one of Detroit's oldest Catholic Churches.

Michael Soranno and his cousin Sonny Cingolani are on a mission to keep music alive at St. Joseph Cathedral at 1828 Jay Street near Detroit's Eastern Market. The Church has a longstanding tradition of liturgical music. But lack of funding is jeopardizing that music program.

So the two original members of "The Liras" are dusting off their oldies tunes and bringing in fresh faces to their band for a Harvest Dinner Dance Fundraiser.  They are teaming up with Michael's daughters Leslie Karr and Allison Soranno, their brother Paul Soranno and also family friend Jason Wilhoite.

The dinner dance will feature a homemade five-course Italian buffet and plenty of live blended harmonies from the 50's and 60's.
