Spike in Calls to Suicide Hotlines

(WXYZ) Suicide hotlines are reporting a spike in calls from people who are dealing with job losses and financial pressures. 

Calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline jumped 36% from 2007 to 2008. Detroit is among the areas that suicide hotlines have reported significant increases. 

Increases were also reported from Dallas, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Hyattsville, Md., Georgia and Delaware.

Here are the warning signs of suicide:

*Talking or writing about death or suicide
*Seeking access to firearms or pills
*Feelings of hoplessness
*No sense of purpose in living
*Dramatic mood changes - anxiety, rage
