Marian Hossa Signs With Blackhawks

Last Update: 7/01 9:03 pm
(WXYZ) - Marian Hossa has signed a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, ending his one-year tenure with the Detroit Red Wings.   Additionally, the Blackhawks are expected to formally announce the signing of fellow Slovakian and former Red Wing Tomas Kopetsky at a news conference this afternoon.

The Blackhawks are reportedly paying Hossa an average of $5.2 million a year.

In a news release, Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon said "To add Marian, an elite and world-class player, and Tomas, a Stanley Cup champion, to our exciting young core reinforces our commitment to try to win the Stanley Cup." The news release also referred to Tomas Kopecky. The Blackhawks signed the former Red Wing to a two-year contract.

Hossa joined the Red Wings last year, saying the team offered him his best chance to win a Stanley Cup. He played well in the regular season, but his production fell off during the playoffs.

Kopecky was a regular part of the Red Wings rotation until suffering facial injuries in a fight against Anaheim in the second round of this year's Stanley Cup playoffs.

Kopecky previously injured his knee and collarbone while playing in Detroit.
