DaJuan Summers' 24-point outing led the Detroit Pistons to an 86-77 victory over the Sacramento Kings in the second game of the first day of action at the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports at the COX Pavilion on the campus of UNLV.
"I think it's good for us as a young team to win early," said Summers on the game. "It can be hard if you loose the first game from a mentality standpoint. It was a good win for us today."
The Pistons jumped ahead to an early lead in the first, owning a 7-point advantage, 10-3 halfway through the period, and never looked back. The quarter came to a decisive end when Clay Tucker connected with Jonas Jerebko who slammed down an alley oop. Detroit finished the quarter up 21-13, shooting 45 percent from the field to Sacramento's 17 percent from the floor.
Detroit continued to dominate in the second quarter, stretching their lead to as many as 11 points, 40-29, before settling for an eight-point lead at the half, 46-38. Tucker led all Pistons scorers going into the half with nine points, while Summers chipped in eight. Jason Thompson led all Sacramento Kings with nine points in the first half.
Mike Bramos [Miami, OH & Grosse Pointe North HS] chipped in with 13 points while Marquise Gray [Michigan State & Flint Beecher] scored 7 points and Tucker finished with 11. The Pistons play the Toronto Raptors tomorrow.
