The Red Wings have come to an agreement with forward Ville Leino, signing him to a two-year deal worth a reported $1.6 million.
Leino spent the bulk of the 2008-09 season in Grand Rapids, where he showed signs of promise offensively.
In a limited stint with the Red Wings during February, Leino scored five goals, enough to warrant a call-up during the playoffs when Pavel Datsyuk was injured.
Leino played two games against Chicago and four against Pittsburgh, tallying two assists. He did not play in Games 5-7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Today's news comes on the heels of an announcement yesterday that Jiri Hudler filed for arbitration. The team continues to negotiate with Hudler, hoping to get a deal done before arbitration hearings begin on July 20.
