PHOENIX, Ariz. (KNXV) - We all have it.

That one problem area.

No matter how hard you diet or exercise, it just won't go away!

"I can't call it baby fat anymore cause he's five," said Traci Lee.

Bouncing back after delivering baby number 2 proved to be much more difficult than Lee realized.

"I've been working out for the better part of 20 years, and it was something I couldn't get off," she said.

But it's something board certified dermatologist Dr. Susan Van Dyke says she can take off.

"You want to come down a size? That's a reasonable expectation," Dr. Van Dyke says to a patient as she carries on the procedure.

It's called LipoSonix.

The one-time treatment uses the power of ultrasound technology to target and destroy fat cells that sit right underneath the surface of the skin.

"You're melting a layer of fat. These cells are being killed in this layer and reabsorbed by the body slowly over several months after the procedure," explained Dr. Van Dyke.

This means you cannot expect immediate results.

"[After] about a month, I started feeling, oh, I think this is working.  But definitely that three-to-four month mark I really noticed a big difference," said Traci Lee.

LipoSonix got FDA approval last year and is primarily used on your stomach and love handles.

"This has to do with the roll you can grab.  It's that softness on top of the muscle," said Dr. Van Dyke.

"You're going to get a smaller waistline, the clothes are going to fit better," she added.

LipoSonix doesn't replace liposuction which Van Dyke calls "the gold standard."

But she warns - just like with liposuction - don't expect to lose any weight with LipoSonix.

"It's almost like taking of f a heavy sweater.  You're smaller.  You didn't lose 20 pounds, but your clothes fit better," she said.

Sound too good to be true?

Just wait until you hear what else LipoSonix can do.

Van Dyke says research shows the procedure inadvertently triggers the body to produce more collagen -- which tightens and firms the area of the body that's being treated.

"A little bit inner thighs, not too much. Knees, fronts of legs, fatty growths...anywhere where there is a pocket of fat,if there's enough fat there," Dr. Van Dyke said.

Beyond that, the potential uses for LipoSonix are endless.

But we asked...could it work on cellulite???

"You know, that's the next one.  You're way ahead of us.  Absolutely because we've already done a number of thighs. And incidentally, we have seen the cellulite on the thighs going away," she answered.

LipoSonix costs anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand.  It depends on how large the treatment area is.

The procedure works with one treatment, but you can go back as many times as you want depending on the desired result.

There are a number of places in southeast Michigan which offer LipoSonix.
