SOUTHFIELD, MICH.(WXYZ) - It’s hot off the griddle, Pure Michigan: Eating Fresh and Local in the Great Lakes State, is the newest introduction into the line of Pure Michigan merchandise supporting the popular Pure Michigan tourism campaign.

Michigan offers some of the richest food experiences anywhere and this new hardcover book celebrates and captures those unique flavors.  More than 60 Test Kitchen-approved recipes and hundreds of restaurant and travel recommendations bring you the best of Pure Michigan from the experts at "Midwest Living" magazine.

One of the recipes featured in Pure Michigan: Eating Fresh and Local in the Great Lakes State is Zingerman's famous brownies. You can find the recipe below.

ZINGERMAN'S FAMOUS BROWNIES RECIPE:
Ingredients:
13 Tablespoons butter
6.5 Ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
1.5 Cups sifted cake flour or all-purpose flower
3/4 Teaspoon baking powder
1/2 Teaspoon salt
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/4 cups coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted

Directions:
1. Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan, set aside. In a small saucepan, heat the butter and chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted and smooth. Set aside to cool. In a bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar with an electric mixer on high speed about 5 minutes or until lemon-colored and fluffy, scraping sides of bowl occasionally.

3. Add cooled chocolate mixture and vanilla to eg mixture. Beat on low speed until combined. Add flour mixture. Beat on low speed until combined, scraping sides of bowl. Using a wooden spoon, stir in walnuts.

4. Spread batter in the prepared pan. Bake in a 325-degree oven about 30 minutes or until brownies appear set. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Cut into bars. (Makes 15 brownies)
