(WXYZ) - A treasure trove of Tiger memorabilia is hitting the auction block at DuMouchelle Galleries on September 20.
Among the items hitting the block are rare documents, including a Lloyds of London insurance policy that covers the Detroit Baseball Company. It was valued at $133,000 and was taken out by team owner Frank Navin in 1921.
Among the players insured on the policy are Ty Cobb, who was valued at $25,000.
That was the year Cobb, who was still a player, became the team's manager and earned his 3,000 hit. Cobb was 34-years-old when he passed that mark, still the youngest player ever to get 3,000 hits.
Other items in the collection include vintage bats, balls, jerseys and bases that have been autographed by Charlie Gehringer, Hal Newhouser, Willie Horton, Joe Dimaggio and Sparky Anderson.
The auction is expected to be conducted at around 10:00 pm. You can get more information by calling the gallery at (313) 963-6255 or online at www.auctiondetroit.com .
