DETROIT (WXYZ) - Hundreds of volunteers will roll up their sleeves on October 6 to help drive out hunger and the effects of poverty during the first annual Hands 4 Detroit day of service.
Volunteers will distribute food, organize a local food pantry and clothing closet, paint area homes, spruce up local parks, assist in neighborhood cleanup and more.
Service projects will run from 9 a.m. until noon. Volunteers are asked to register online at http://www.hands4detroit.org and meet at Detroit Metropolitan United Methodist Church, located at 8000 Woodward Avenue, at 8:30 a.m. If needed, transportation to individual service sites will be provided. Childcare is also available. A community celebration of music, art and poetry will follow at the church at 12:30 p.m.
