Michael Rosenfield has covered some of the biggest breaking news events in metro Detroit since joining WXYZ. From the attempted Christmas Day bombing of Flight 253, to the I-96 flood, to the hostage situation at a Comerica bank branch, Michael has been at the center of major news stories over the last five years.
Michael has also been sent around the state to cover stories for Action News. Assignments have included the Mark Unger verdict in Benzie County; Stephen Grant's run from the law to Northern Michigan; and the funeral of President Ford in Grand Rapids. Action News also sent Michael to cover the campus shootings at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois.
Depending on the day, you can catch Michael's reporting on Action News This Morning, Noon, 5, 6, 7 or 11. His schedule often changes on a moment's notice! He is also a regular fill-in on the anchor desk, and anchored the weekend morning newscasts for over a year.
Prior to joining WXYZ, Michael worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor at WJRT-TV in Flint, and as weekend evening anchor/weekday reporter at KDLT-TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Michael grew up in Boston, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations, and obtained a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
Michael has earned numerous awards for his reporting, including a Michigan Emmy. He is also the recipient of several first-place prizes from the Michigan Assocation of Broadcasters, the Michigan Associated Press, the South Dakota Associated Press and the Northwest Broadcast News Association.
When he's not covering the stories of metro Detroit and reporting live for Action News, Michael's favorite hobby is learning new languages. He studies Italian, French and Romanian. He also enjoys traveling, reading and swimming.
