Charlie Sheen files for divorce in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES - Charlie Sheen has filed for divorce from his third wife, Brooke Mueller Sheen, days after he was briefly hospitalized in New York City.

Court records in Los Angeles show the "Two and a Half Men" star filed for divorce Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. Sheen and his wife were married in May 2008, and they have twin sons together. Sheen is seeking joint custody.

Sheen pleaded guilty in Aspen, Colo., in August to misdemeanor third-degree assault after a Christmas Day altercation with Brooke Sheen. He listed the couple's separation date as the date of the fight.

Last week, Sheen was hospitalized after security at the Plaza Hotel reported the actor was disorderly. His publicist claimed he had an adverse reaction to medication. He was released the same day.
