(WXYZ) - ABC has announced that beginning January 8 the network is moving its late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live to 11:35 p.m.
The move will put Kimmel in direct competition with NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and CBS's Late Show with David Letterman for the first time.
ABC says the move will capitalize on ratings momentum and advertising demand.
Because of the move Nightline will move from 11:35 p.m. to 12:35 a.m. Nightline will also expand into primetime, airing on Friday nights at 9:00 p.m. beginning March 1.
