(WXYZ) - With Father's Day this weekend, here are some great ideas to make Dad feel special.
Start the morning off with a nice breakfast in bed to show your appreciation. How about for lunch? Try having a BBQ. Use the nice grill you got him last year and grab some t-bone steaks at the market to satisfy his manly cravings. Not up for cooking a meal? A nice brunch or big rib dinner will surely keep a smile on his face. That matched with ESPN and a brew that evening will top the day off and let him know just how much you love him. Royal Oak Bru Fest
Looking for some good fun that supports a good cause and a good time for dad? Check out Royal Oak’s Bru Feast that features beers, burgers and wings from the hottest spots around all together at Royal Oak Farmers Market. Try some of the best burgers from Bagger Dave’s, spice it up with some wild wings from Buffalo Wild Wings and wash it all down with beers from Bell’s Brewery. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door which includes 10 craft beer tokens, burgers, wings and gourmet desserts. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Proceeds will go to Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.
Dearborn International Arab Festival
Come out to Dearborn this weekend for Middle Eastern food, fun and entertainment. The 16th annual American Arab festival will take place Friday June 17th through the 19th and will feature thrilling rides, Arabic merchandise, coffee cup readings, henna and more. The festival attracts an estimated 300,000 people from the United States and Canada transforming 12 blocks of Warren Avenue between Schaefer Road and Wyoming Street into a cultural celebration. Belleville Strawberry Festival
For those looking for a taste of summer, it's time to head to Belleville for the National Strawberry Festival. Billed as "a weekend of fun for everyone," the even features three days of fun centered around teh strawberry. Events include stage shows, parades, carnival rides and games. There's also arts & crafts, a Father's Day Car Show and a special children's area. The festival takes place at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Belleville Presbyterian Church, Victory Park and downtown Belleville.
Pirate Palooza
Arrrrrgh! Join Captain Jack Sparrow with his pirate pals at Luna Kai in St. Clair Shores for a banging beach bash. The perfect pirate platters will be served filled with pig roast, and BBQ. There will also be live rock and pirate music with vendors, raffles and giveaways all night. Dress to impress as a pirate or a wench and get $5 off the $10 cover charge and enter the sexy wenches contest. All ages are welcome. Shiver me timbers this sounds like loads of fun.
MOCAD Block Party
The Museum of Contemporary Art brings art to the block. Sponsored by the Detroit Wig Out and Family Hootenanny, this daylong block party is the ideal family fun. Festivities will include a workshop lead by Detroit artist Nivek Monet to create a puppet backdrop that will later host a puppet show, a break dance workshop led by urban dance group Hardcore Detroit followed by ice cream, music and a piñata to end the evening. Admission into the block party is free, and will take place Saturday June 18th from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Colin Hubbell Detroit Bike Ride 2011
Trying to stay in shape just became a lot easier with the 3rd annual Colin Hubbell 2011 Detroit Bike Ride. This year will feature two different routes. The first is an 8 mile route that will travel through the heart of midtown Detroit. The second is a longer 25 mile route for riders who want a deeper look into the city. Tickets range from $20 - $30 and will include food, and entrance into the block party that will follow. The first 200 to register and show up to the event will also receive a t-shirt. Anyone registering today or the day of will have to pay an additional $5 fee. The event will take place June 18th at 9:30 a.m. and will start and finish at Traffic Jam Restaurant and Brewery in mid-town Detroit.
