DETROIT, Mich (WXYZ) - Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory over the French in the battle of Puebla.
Here in Detroit, we celebrate with a weekend filled with events.
The holiday weekend gets underway with an outdoor fiesta on Saturday May 5, 2012 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm at 21st Street and Bagley in the Mexicantown district.
On Sunday May 6, 2012 the second day of events begins with a parade that starts at noon and travels from Patton Park to Clark Park. Activities at the Bagley fiesta site will take place from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
The 2012 celebration will be a family focused party and provide entertainment that caters to grandchildren and grandparents alike. At the Bagley fiesta site there will be a variety of outdoor family entertainment venues for the children and a stage hosting live performances such as the folklorico dancers.
The parade features traditional floats, 3 different chorro (horseback riding) groups, several Latin and local school bands.
