ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Stagecrafters in Royal Oak is bringing back Vaudeville in a big way with a special Organ Concert, St. Patrick's Day weekend. There will be two shows: Friday March 15, at 8pm and Sunday March 17, at 2pm.
The Baldwin Theatre was once named the grandest vaudeville house in the Midwest.
This weekend it will return to its roots, as Stagecrafters presents "Visions of Vaudeville" an organ concert, featuring the community theatre's treasured and newly restored Wurlitzer Organ.
Melissa Eidson will be at the organ console taking audiences on a remarkable journey with period song selections intertwined with hilarious comedic acts, a bit of dance and some sing-a-longs.
Stagecrafters says it's the only community theatre in the region with a Wurlitzer. After years of silence, the organ has been restored. A new blower was carefully lifted to the roof of the Baldwin Theatre in August 2010 and the first concerts were held on April 15 and 17, 2011.
Concert events are co-sponsored by Stagecrafters and Motor City Theatre Organ Society.
Stagecrafters is located at 415 S. Lafayette in Royal Oak, Michigan
