(WXYZ) - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will host the 85th Academy Awards.
MacFarlane is also known for directing Ted, this year's top comedy at the box office. The movie about what happens to a man and his living teddy bear when they grow up has earned $218 million at the US box office and $420 million worldwide.
It was MacFarlane's directorial debut.
In addition to Ted and Family Guy, MacFarlane is also behind American Dad! and The Cleveland Show. He has been nominated for 13 Emmy Awards, winning two for his work on Family Guy.
"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," said MacFarlane in a news release. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."
You can watch the 85th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 24 on WXYZ-TV.
